It would appear that the folks over at Laika are actively trolling everyone who wishes they would make a Psychonauts film.

To everyone calling out The Boxtrolls for being transphobic/transmisogynistic, please see the movie.

Please actually watch the film.

A psychotic child-knapper disguising themselves to hurt others does not mean they identify as a trans woman.

Considering he mostly only makes use of the Frau-Frau persona during a Vaudeville-like music show it also seemed much more like a Drag situation.

So yeah boxtrolls was transphobic. Way to go laika. Reinforcing the trope that trans women are out to trick you. Are villains. Are lying. From a studio everyone looks at as being progressive and accepting. Fucking gross. If you see this villainization of trans people as acceptable or ‘just part of the plot’ congratulations you are part of the problem

Snatcher seemed like much more of a drag show performer than a trans individual.

don’t go see the boxtrolls.

trans women’s lives aren’t a joke.

the box trolls is shit.

if it was such a good movie, it wouldn’t need transmisogyny to pull it along.

truly funny things don’t hurt people. truly funny things don’t put people’s lives in danger by supporting prejudice, hatred and bile. truly funny things don’t need to.

don’t support that fucking monstrosity.

Just a question, have you actually seen the film?

The Boxtrolls (2014) | Behind the Scenes

via Animation Magazine:

  • 1 week; the average amount of time for an animator to complete 3.7 seconds of footage
  • 3.5 inches, the cuff-to-cuff measurement of baby Eggs’ sweater (created on an embroidery machine to produce irregular lines, like a hand-knitted garment). His little socks are only ⅝” long
  • 4 scenes per week was the goal for each animator
  • 14 different fabrics were used in Lord Portley-Rind’s white hat
  • 24 kinds of weeds were created for backgrounds by the greens department
  • 55 different sculpts of prop cheeses were made; different scale sizes were needed for wide, medium and close shots

Hi guys. we need to have a serious chat right now. →

Two years ago, there was a movie called Paranorman.

It didn’t do so good at the box office, despite it being one of the most important, game changing animated movies since the Disney renaissance. It made its money back, but it wasn’t the smash hit Frozen was.

And this is a fucking tragedy.

There were however a million mashups between Paranorman and Gravity Falls.

I had the privilege to listen to Laika’s presentation at OMSI’s Science Pub by Brian McLean (Laika’s Directer of Rapid Prototype) about the studio’s work with 3D printing to create replacement animated models. Super cool.  I even got to see and hold some of the character faces.

I just really like Eggs… a lot.

"A pleasure to meet YOU!"

This is my entry for "The BoxTrolls Nike Shoe Contest." He stands at 2 feet tall and is made entirely out of cardboard. (And glue and paint) It took me 30+ hours to get it movie accurate. It stores five LED lights, three in his chest and two in his eyes. I tried my best to add most of the boxtroll’s cavern with slide, ferris wheel, gears, tunnel, lightbulb mound and box pile with lit up eyes. The steampunk feel comes from the gears while the victorian feel is from the stenciling of the white hat symbols on the inside door. I adore everything Laika produces and I’ve been a big fan since the beginning. It astounds me how much work and effort they put into each piece. I hope to one day own an original face plate from any of the films! Someday. Thanks for creating such amazing work! I’m eagerly awaiting to see more in the future. Great job on BoxTrolls Laika crew!
